Gaudi Day

We woke up late today, 9AM.  I think we are getting used to the late evening life style.  Tapas at 8, dinner at 10, drinks after midnight.

Colin and Yunis

We started the day again at the cafe across from our hotel and ran into our new-found friend Yunis.

Yunis works at the spa at the hotel and took a liking to us and we seem to meet him every day by chance.  The Spainards, they are friendly people.

Our plan for the day was then to see more works of Gaudi.  Sagrada Familia and Park Guelle.
We have become very comfortable getting around town and the 3-day pass has worked out great. The transit systems are very efficient.

So off we went to our first stop Sagrada Famila, probably Gaudi's most famous work. No picture I can take could possibly capture the beauty and magnitude of this place.

This place is not to be missed.  Words that come to mind are;  disturbing, magnificent, Intriguing,  The shear size of this is hard to believe. How one man had such vision and talent is to be marveled.

On the old side of the cathedral, which is more gothic in design, we found the elevator to the top of the towers.  We almost didn't go to the top because the lines on the "more modern" side of the cathedral were so long.  But we overheard somebody talking about the elevator on the old side being short, and it was.  We got right on.  This also should definitely not be missed.  Even if you had to wait, it would be worth it. But go to the old section, you might be lucky.

From the towers you can see, close up, the detail of the structure and again, marvel at Gaudi's vision. Not to mention, a great view of the city.  Walking down the towers is an experience. The detail even down to the drainage and colors, and details on faces is amazing. The smallest details were not overlooked in the design.

The place is totally under construction and will be for a very long time, but even that was interesting to watch.  The planning and execution of their work in fulfilling Gaud's dream is in full force.

After a bite to eat at a local cafe where I had stuffed eggplant and chicken and Colin had Paella, we were off to Parc Guelle.

Here we strolled through the park and admired more of Gaudi's work. The houses and the benches. Such interesting style and detail.  We enjoyed the music of Alex the  hang drum player who was very good (and bought his CD) (listen to his work in the video to the right). and watched flamenco dancers in the square (see the video on the right).
